The Beauty of Blends™

2014 Bouké Rosé

The North Fork of Long Island, New York

A fruit forward, stainless steel-fermented blend of Merlot (70%), Cabernet Sauvignon (22%) and Cabernet Franc (8%). 12.5% alcohol by volume. Closure: screwcap.

Tasting Notes

A formidable rosé with a salmon hue and aromas of red currants, strawberries, raspberries and pears. Dry yet fruity, soft and round, with a lingering finish.

Vineyard Notes

Red grapes reached full maturity during the 2014 vintage, with dark colors and ripe tannins. Rosés were not macerated very long in anticipation of too much color coming out. The season began with wet, wintry snow, and the soil did not warm up as early as usual. Bud break was two weeks late, but the grapes' maturity caught up during the warm, dry summer. The summer was never very very hot, and September had dry, sunny days and cool nights, which promoted color into the reds. There were no symptions of drought in the foliage, which remained green all season. Once the grapes reached over 20 brix, the size of the berries swelled up. This was an unusual year for achieving both yields and quality.

Winemaking Notes

The grapes were destemmed, then rested in the press prior to gentle pressing. Yeast: Rhone 4600. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at a low temperature of 60 degrees F to maintain aromas. The wine underwent sterile filtration to ensure stability at bottling. No MLF. pH: 3.25,  TA: 6.15 g/L,  RS: <0.25% g/L.

Serving Suggestions
